Production is currently underway. A Significant Reunion for Fans Lawrence and Hutcherson are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their cameos will probably be featured in a brief glimpse ahead, considering the original saga concluded with their characters settled into family life. This represents the sixth cinematic outing in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise. The Source Material Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a recent book by author Suzanne Collins. It will be the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who was behind nearly all the previous films in the series. A New Era in Panem The film's story are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games. The cast also includes several accomplished actors in important characters: Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee. Ralph Fiennes will appear as a younger version of the menacing President Snow. Current Projects and Release Timeline In other news, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson stars in the sequel to the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2. Regarding the filming timeline: Principal photography started in the summer of 2025. Filming reportedly wrapped in November of the same year. The eagerly awaited film is slated for November 2026 premiere.
