Manchester United Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
