The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Track

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure by Critical Role, revealed a new opening credits. It features the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and taking names, while also hinting at multiple heart-wrenching backstories for characters including Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.

All in all, the opening appears stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the music selection.

The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar composition created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. It's a track from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second one released by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will love its inclusion.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening doesn't quite capture the hype and excitement that was part of the show's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", written by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it only got better when cast member the performer added lyrics to the melody for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you start an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The show's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's an impressive composition, but from what I know of the group, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, the creators has already said that the series will have a few surprises and differences from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as among these.

This animated adventure will be available to watch on Prime Video from November 19. For those eager before that, or want a head start to learn about the characters of the second series, the original episodes are accessible on the audio platform and YouTube.
